I’ve been playing God of War II a lot up late.
I can defiantly say that this is the last great game that will come on the Playstation 2 as was expected. It holds true to the original in terms of gameplay, graphics, storyline and breathtaking scenery. I also liked the way you started out with all the abilities from God of War but due to Zeus tricking you, you lose them and have to start again increasing your strength and learning new moves and abilities. It made more sense then an all powerful God of War had “forgotten” all of his former acquired skills at the start of the game.
I think I am near the end in the game now, so far it has been a fun and challenging ride, sometimes a little too challenging, I’ve had to do a few things more then a few times before I could get past it.
The games basic concepts are also rather interesting and has to do with Kratos trying to prevent his own death and change his fate by going to see the Witches of Fate. Fun elements like slowing down time and resetting time have also been implanted which offer some fun twists that weren’t in the first game.
To top it all off I recently went and finally bought myself a new Monitor. Having been on a 19″ CRT for far too long it was time for a change. It cost a fortune and has one dead pixel but apart from that I couldn’t be happier to have a 24″ LCD from Samsung
The screen is huge, almost twice the size of my old monitor’s screen it has excellent brightness and it can do 1920×1200 max and it has many available inputs including DVI, VGA, Composite, S-Video and Component so I can easily have my Playstation 2, Xbox 360 and my PC all connected to it at the same time and then I can just switch between the inputs.
As far as ghosting goes, it’s nonexistant on this monitor and the picture is exceptionally good in games, so if you are in the market for a new monitor I vouch for this one.
I had planned to be enjoying my new monitor on a new videocard, an 8800GTS 640mb card but turned out it was sold out so I’d have to wait three more weeks before It will be available again from them, They did say they are getting in the new models from ATI which will be in a similar price range. I’ve always been more for Nvidia though and although the 2900XT is powerful it still doesn’t beat the 8800GTX from nvidia, however it is much cheaper and it seems that earlier reviews weren’t bringing up the right picture of what it can do due to driver issues. They showed me a review where the 2900XT pulled ahead of the GTS models and wasn’t all that far behind the GTX in many tests run.
I suppose I could go with the 2900XT but since it’s an extreme powerhog I am not sure whether my powersupply could take it, under load the 2900XT even draws more power then Nvidia’s flagship 8800GTX ultra which outperforms it by a fair amount.
So if go with the ATI card I could be forced to upgrade my powersupply and I’d rather let that wait until I do a new build.
Ah before I forget, the Tomb Raider Anniversary edition demo is out. The game has great graphics and the gameplay is similar to the one found in Tomb Raider: Legend, it also has a fun nostalgic feel about it like certain sound effects and some of the locations are very similar to the onces found in the first games. It’s on my to buy list so if you liked/like Tomb Raider, give it a try.
