Yep.

Category: My Thoughts

Work is keeping me busy. I don’t really have time for anything else then rest and other non time consuming things. Which means games are out.

I just have to remind myself that in the end I will have more then enough money for Digital Overload and to catch up on any games I won’t have a chance to buy in Nov.

Tabula Rasa has launched and there’s no way I will have the time to get around too it. Guess I’ll have to give it a miss. At least for now.

Neat little video from Angry Video Game Nerd depicting a parody of the legendary Kung fu fighter for NES.

I start work tonight, the busiest time of the year for me is about to start so I don’t know how much posting I will be doing in the near future. We’ll just see what happens.

Stumbled upon this link. It shows you how you can use the Aperture Portal gun in pretty much any Source based game. Including Half life 2/Epi 1, Epi 2. It’s pretty neat.

As I said Playstation 3 is here and it’s pretty good.

Seeing as how I own Xbox 360 already I’m not really blown away by any of the features or graphics. So far I haven’t seen any real signs that PS3 > 360.

I haven’t tested blueray yet because I don’t have a blueray movie but I tried DVD and for some reason PS3 wouldn’t run it. The screen just artifacts a little and then the screen goes black and it hangs until I restart it. I don’t know what could be causing this. It however doesn’t really matter since I already have plenty of good DVD players around anyways such as my 360.

Folklore looks great and it’s defiantly gonna get more fun as you further into the game. The translation is a little off and for a two main character game where you can choose which path you take, they both follow a very similar path through the game. At least so far, I haven’t gone very far.

I noticed that it wasn’t running at 1080p. Pretty lame of Sony to brag about 1080p support when it isn’t even used in the games themselves. Hopefully there will be some out soon that do run natively at that resolution so I can witness what the PS3 can really do.

The other games are okay, nothing super.

Right now I’m waiting most of all for Metal Gear Solid 4, that is the main reason I’ve ever wanted a PS3, well that and God of War 3 when it gets released. I hope there are plenty of other exclusives still too be revealed that I’ll be interested in. Wouldn’t want the PS3 to get covered in dust due to under use. Because I prefer my 360 or PC for multi platform games.

Enough about PS3 for now.

I’ve been called too work. I was asked to work from 7:30pm to 7:30am ugh.. If I had known sooner I wouldn’t have gone to bed so early last night so it’s gonna be a real struggle keeping awake.

During the next few weeks I’ll probably not be around much and have very limited free time. Working shifts during the day and night tends to do that. If I go on 8 hour shifts I will have time too sleep and if I’m lucky eat between shifts.

Ah well, money money money. Need to save up for Digital Overload and Christmas.

Oh happy day.

I just received my newly ordered Playstation 3.

I’m so psyched right now. It looks awesome but it’s true what they say, it’s heavy. Clearly not as good for moving around as the 360.

Haven’t tried any games yet still waiting on it too fully update but I did get Motorstorm and Resistance with it. I also ordered Warhawk and Folklore to get my PS3 collection going. I have it running at 1080p so I will get a chance to see how it looks at full HD(I can only do 1080i on 360)

Another nice surprise this morning was that I received the DVD collections I ordered from Amazon. The Superman collection(excluding Superman Returns unfortunately), Starwars Trilogy(Original of course, others sucked in comparison) and Back to the future collection. These are some of my favorite movies of all time so I’ll be spending my time watching it all again.

I’ll write more about Playstation 3 later tonight or tomorrow.

It’s official, Valve are bastards!

Category: My Thoughts

These past couple of days have been fun. First and foremost was the release of Valve’s Orange box.

First off Portal.

Portal happens in the Aperture Enrichment Center where scientific experiments are made. It’s all controlled by a weird witty Artificial Intelligence named GLaDOS he speaks with you throughout the game. The dialog at times is hilarious and if it wasn’t for GLaDOS this game wouldn’t be nearly as fun. You are a scientific specimen that has to solve a set of puzzles located in 19 chambers using the Aperture handheld portal device which will allow you to make portals. You can only make one entrance and one exit portal. It really can try on your wits to figure out how you can best solve a puzzle. At the end you are promised cake. Now I don’t want to spoil so all I will say is that the cake is REALLY hot. The only thing this game lacks is length. It only took me about 2.5 hours or so to get through the main part of the game and there are a couple of challenges extra, in the end you were left wanting just a little bit more.

I really recommend it.

I have already stated what I think of Team Fortress 2. To sum it up. It’s fun and one of the better multiplayer games I’ve played in a long time.

Now, just a few minutes ago I finished Half life 2:Episode two.
As always being Gordon Freeman is a satisfying experience. The graphics are excellent, even after what 3 years since the Source engine was released it can still impress with it’s excellent graphic capabilities and you don’t need a supercomputer to play it on either.
Not many new things really, it was mostly just like playing Hl2 or Episode one. It was a little longer then Episode 1 which is a plus since that game was way too short.

Now to explain why Valve are bastards…They are bastards because they ended Episode two with yet another exciting cliffhanger..so you’re just left sitting there going “Aww fuck I want to see what happens next!”

At this point, I’m really hoping they were secretly working on Episode 3 and it’s coming before Christmas but that isn’t likely. I hope Episode 3 won’t get pushed back as much as Episode 2 was because now things are really getting interesting.

Now the other thing I’ve been playing is the beta demo they released for Unreal Tournament 3. It’s no secret that I’m a big UT fan. I played UT1 for close to 7 years before I finally got free from it’s addictiveness.

First thing I notice is that it really is a beta. It’s not perfect and is still in need of some polishing and tweaking but what I’ve seen so far is very good. The weapons have been upped in damaged again a whole lot since UT2004 which had an arsenal you would find some 10 year old kid playing with(super soaker, beebee gun). It was that underpowered, but now when you shoot someone in the face with the rocketlauncher they actually feel the impact like it should be. The movement has been changed a whole lot, the game is much faster paced and movement is closer to how it was in UT1. Dodging has been made more important then double jumping. I hated that in UT2004, replacing dodging with jumping all over the place..It’s both slower and I for one don’t like bunny rabbits.
The new User Interface is bad. It’s clearly designed more with game controller in mind then a mouse. It is also very limited in options unlike all other UT games before it. I’m hoping it’s only because this is the beta and it won’t become a norm. I never understood why they dropped the old Umenu from Unreal Tournament. It was by far the best interface ever seen in a Unreal game and now they just keep getting worse..

Ah well.

Hey there, it’s been awhile hasn’t it..

Going through a rough time right now, usually happens when the weather gets worse and things around here start to get really dark and gloomy due to the sun going into hiding.

Two things are helping to cheer me up at the moment. First, finally getting my hands on Halo 3 after waiting a week. As I expected it’s fun, it’s not the messiah of gaming or the cure for cancer(wish it was…) but it’s still nice game. I haven’t had a chance to play four player co-op yet, but me and Chris took a game earlier today and although it was very lagged it was still a lot of fun.

The other thing is Team Fortress 2.В  I got into the beta ages ago when they first started offering getting into it by preordering the Orange box on Steam. I fired it up and shortly after getting it, I entered the first game and it crashed on me. After that I put it off and it was just this Friday that I gave it a shot again and boy am I hitting myself for not playing it more back when I had the chance.

Words can’t describe how much fun this game is, I haven’t felt this way since back when I played Unreal Tournament for the first time(my all time favorite multiplayer FPS). I have been cycling the classes and as they should, all classes have their pros and cons. The balance seems to pretty good, although I’m expecting they will do some tweaking and nerfing at some point after the game is released. At the moment I’m favoring the Medic. I like being the healer, whether it’s in mmos or FPS, it’s a vital role in all FPS/mmo games so mastering it will come in handy if you want to gain reputation.

Since I’m writing about beta testing but I’m also in the Crysis mp beta. It’s another game I haven’t been giving nearly enough attention, mainly because it runs so poorly on my system. To have a chance of running it with decent framerate I have to run it in low settings, ugh is my PC really that outdated… Clearly this game is meant for the future PCs, not even a 8800GTX SLI setup can run the highest setting without fps dropage.

I’m also in the Pirates of the Burning Sea beta but I haven’t had a chance to play it yet because it’s a stress test so getting into the server is impossible. Last time I tried I had to wait for a few hours to get in..

I think I’ll just wait for the game to come out instead.. I hope it’s good because Pirate mmo is needed, arrrr. I can make my very own Captain Zack Jarrow!

So, we should do this again sometime….No, don’t call me, I’ll call you!
