Jack Thompson on Fox
Why…why must we endure another one.Category: Game politics, My Thoughts
Saw the news on the school shooting at Northern Illinois University on Saturday. Despite people’s best effort to prevent these things from happening they are still happening and far to frequently. Just last year 32 people lost their lifes to the crazed Cho in the VT massacre.
In the case of Cho, there was a obviously disturbed individual and if he had gotten the proper treatment needed for his problems it might never have happened.
However this time it was a 27 year old modal student with top grades and had shown no indication that he was dangerous. According to the reports he did suffer from a undisclosed mental illness and had not been taking his meds.
Profiling school shooters seems to be next to impossible at this point. It seems pretty much anyone could be capable of this. The only common factor is the shooter suffering from either mental illness or social issues and depression.
Despite this Jack Thompson has again been called in as a School shooting expert on Fox news. Just like with the shooting at Virgina Tech he said Video games were to blame and told us how videogames can lead to school shooting.
Of course my opinion on this is pretty understandable as a human being and as a gamer.
Jack Thompson is attention seeking massacre chaser. There I’ve said it. The guy goes out there on Fox and talks about how Videogames are creating cold blooded murderers before any official information had been disclosed. He was preaching his rubbish before anyone even really knew anything.
I’ll accept that he has an opinion, that videogames are evil and turning people evil or something. It’s not like I’m going to change it.
But the guy just pisses me off with his total insensitivity to the family and friends of the deceased. Using tragedies like this as a way to promote yourself and get some air time and then having nothing to claim but unsupported speculations shows how much of an A**hole he really is.
JT still clinges on to Cho having been an avid Counterstrike player and used it to “train” himself for the shooting which had been posted in the Washington Post but then pulled out probably due to the information being wrong and totally ignoring his mental issues and that he had been practicing with the gun at a shooting range. He even went as far as call VT massacre the 9/11 of videogame evilness. Then what happened…It turned out that Cho was not a gamer at all. He spent most of his time writing. A governor ordered review of the event showed no sign of games being a contributing factor.
It has been released that Steven Kazmierczak was a gamer. He did play Counterstrike a lot as reported by students from his dorm. But they also noted that it wasn’t uncommon at the dorms to play Counterstrike.
Cho not being a gamer was much more of a shock then Steve ever being one. A male at his age that has not ever played a game in his life are few and far between.
Jack’s claims hinges on CS being what was used to “train”.
Of course this is totally absurd. Counterstrike a “murder simulator”? The game has to do with disarming bombs that terrorists are trying to detonate I fail to see what that has to do with murder. I mean sure you kill “people” in it but in no way can it teach you how to use a gun. I have played plenty of FPS games and I know next to nothing about how guns work or how to handle them.
The game also has a object to it. It’s a team game not unlike that of some kind of sports. Real life sports are more violent then most video games and people who watch it can also turn violent if their team is losing etc but that’s a far far from it causing someone to go on a murderous rampage. If that happens the person has issues.
It’s not a game about senseless killing without purpose. There are very few games that fall under that category, GTA which has been JT’s obsession for a long time as the best example of “murder simulator” does give you the freedom to kill people without actually having some objective to it. However with killing them you get the police chasing after you and even the army so the game is really trying to keep you away from doing it. In itself GTA is totally inaccurate when it comes to killing and it teaches you absolutely nothing about how to do it.
I hope I’m making sense here…I feel like I lost the track earlier, a little tired.
In closing the only thing knowsjackshit Thompson excels at, is pissing people off, being a self promoting rude snub that thinks his way is the only to life and gamers are just stupid savages without morals.
My heart goes out the friends and family of the deceased.

So What else is new?Category: My Thoughts
Heya.
Just dropping in to do a post for the heck of it. After all that’s what this site is for…right?
I’ve been doing nothing for to long now. Nothing to do down at work yet so I sit around at home..being bored. It’s funny how you would think you’d spend more time catching up on games when you have nothing to do but I just get restless and end up spending less time gaming then I usually do. I don’t know why that is, I guess I just feel like I should be doing something and that something isn’t gaming. Maybe if I was getting payed for spending my time on games it would be different.. I don’t know maybe not.
Currently I’m trying to get more fit. I had set a goal for myself to get into better shape before I turn 25(I turned 24 on the 12th of January in case I forgot to mention that). I have lost a lot of weight since I moved back to my hometown. over 10kg or 22lbs but it still isn’t good enough I want to lose at least twice that more to be happy.
I have said goodbye to my long time Coke addiction. I’ve been clean of it’s overly sugary and caffinated spell for almost two weeks now.
Just doing this should shave a few pounds of me. I’ve also left sweets well enough alone(apart from fruits and stuff like that) for awhile now and I’m sure it’s going to pay off.
I finished the great Legend of Zelda: Link to the past on my SNES in one sitting a few days ago. That game is just as great as it was back in the day apart from one flaw.
I remember pretty much every single detail in the game. I have a problem with replaying because I can never seem to forget what I’m supposed to do. Forgetting helps with replaying but it just doesn’t work that for me. I can go through Curse of Monkey Island easy because it’s all memorized for me.
Saw a interesting new peripheral for FPS games on PC, it’s a feedback vest you put on and it will simulate bullet hits or just hits in general in games. I’m intrigued and I’d love to test it out. Below is the video for it.
The vest is okay but I’d never wear that silly looking helmets while playing these types of games even at home, I’m not that desperate for immersion into games. :p
I’ve given up on Assassin’s Creed I have no drive to pummel through it. Just doesn’t feel worth it with all the repetitiveness and the painfully stupid AI.
In other news the DVDs I ordered are here. My X-files complete set(I got it at a steal..for almost as much as one season goes for over here), firefly and some classic movies to add to my collection. I’m really happy with it and I love how cheap amazon.co.uk is compared with the shitty prices over here even with the custom taxes and shipping cost.
I’m gonna experiment with a project I’m working on in the next couple of days. Maybe I’ll make a short video and put it in here, who knows.
I’ll do an update tomorrow, I promise!
Loves and cuddles.
