Blizzard Unveils Diablo III

Category: Gaming News
blizzard-unveils-diablo-iii

That’s right, at the Blizzard Entertainment’s Worldwide Invitational after showing alot of misleading clips and material from World of Warcraft’s new expansion Lich king they dropped the bomb late last night and just like when StarCraft 2 was announced, I’m sure many soiled them themselves in excitement.

Diablo is one of Blizzard’s three biggest properties along side with Warcraft and Starcraft so it isn’t at all surprising seeing the fans dancing the happy dance.

Diablo is a Dark fantasy RPG game, the first being released back in 1997 and it became a huge hit, the sequel was then released in 2000 and it made it to the Guinness world of records as the fastest selling game of all time, selling a million units in it’s first two weeks. It still holds the record after all this time.

At the Worldwide Invitational, lead designer Jay Wilson, formerly of Relic and designer on Warhammer 40K Dawn of War, spoke about the game. The latest sequel will be a 3D hack and slash with an isometric view, with at least one familiar class — the Barbarian, an interface with health and mana bubbles. The game world will have destructible environments and quest or story events, “more so than previous games.” Alongside the old (yet new) Barbarian class is the new Witch Doctor class, with spells and a pet mechanic. Diablo III will also see the return of Deckard Cain, one of Diablo’s most popular characters.

Now I never was the biggest fan of Diablo, however I have friends who are and I won’t pass up the chance to play through the game with them.

Personal blog.

Category: My Thoughts
personal-blog

I have decided to start another blog for myself.

I’m not abandoning this one or anything, I just feel I need to move personal and life related stuff to another more appropiate place. This blog should focus on the gaming aspect of my life nothing more.

here is the link

http://egillf.bloggar.is/

Now for most of you what’s in there is gibberish because I decided to write it in Icelandic rather then english  since it’s much easier for me seeing as how it’s my native language and all, plus it’s not really that interesting stuff anyway, just my diary if you will, and my thoughts on stuff happening in my life.

Right now I’m just considering my future but meh, who wants to read about that? :p

LETS GET LOUD! LETS PARTY!

Category: My Thoughts, Reviews

So I just came home from a nearly 12 hour long party..and while I’m gone the party still isn’t done..

Dancing, drinking, dancing some more, drinking even more..

The reason for the party is a school reunion celebrating 10 years since we were babtised. So getting all the gang together that I have known for most of my life while I was at school was bound to end up as a hell of a party.

Especially considering that it will probably be 5-10 years until we will all meet again like this.

I’m not much of a drinker and in the 12 hours I only drank three beers so they never really got to me, just helped me relax a little. I’m rather down to earth and stiff but even I couldn’t resist dancing a little with them. It was amazingly fun being there and seeing them again.

I’ve always been out of the loop since I was never a party animal, I didn’t drink but I just had to let loose for the short time I’ll see them again.

I honestly could write on and on about this but I don’t know..I just felt like writing something.

the ‘84 gang rules! woo!

awwwwww isn’t it cute?

….What do you mean no???

:(

Anyway, the Spore Creature Creator is finally here. You can buy it in a store, online or you can head on over to fileplanet. They have a trial for it so you can test it out. It has about 25% of the available stuff in the full version so it isn’t bad.

I have to go to bed now, I still have that Age of Conan review and I’ll talk about Spore some more tomorrow.

AMD Unveils Cinema 2.0 Claims You’ll Play Inside Movies.

Category: PC Hardware News
amd-unveils-cinema-20-claims-youll-play-inside-movies

AMD unveiled a new GPU that has a WHOPPING 1 teraFLOPs processing power.

They say the power of the new  GPU is more powerful then every single consoles processing power combined. Clearly they aren’t afraid of making the big claims.

They also claimed:
“With Cinema 2.0 you won’t just play movies, you’ll play in them. Imagine the ability to look around the environments in a sci-fi movie, put yourself in the driver’s seat in a race scene, duck behind things and pop up to see what’s going on in an intense firefight – all of these things are possible with Cinema 2.0,” said Charlie Boswell, director, Digital Media & Entertainment, AMD. “The challenge for any director has always been taking a wonderful vision in the canvas of the mind and translating that to film for the audience to see. Cinema 2.0 breaks down the time and cost barriers of getting a scene or shot that’s ‘just right’, and what’s better, allows audiences to dive deeper into the experience to explore every part of that director’s vision.”

Okay cool, but will it really work?

They released a short demonstration video to show what they claim is Realtime rendering

http://gameaddictionblog.com/downloads/flv/Cinema2_1.flv

They go on to say

“Today’s demonstration of Cinema 2.0 represents a sip from the multi-billion dollar gaming industry’s Holy Grail, while presenting a new quest to digital filmmakers,” said Richard Huddy, worldwide developer relations manager, AMD Graphics Product Group. “Imagine going to the opening of a movie and upon getting home being able to play a game that looks and feels absolutely identical – right down to the character models and sets.”

“The Cinema 2.0 milestone is comparable to other major evolutions of film: sound, color, cinemascope, 70mm, THX, stereoscopic 3D, IMAX, and the like,” said Jules Urbach, founder and CEO, Jules World LLC, OTOY. “Cinema 2.0 means truly interactive cinema, where the experience of watching a film is bridged perfectly with real-time rendering for a potentially dynamic and engaging experience. The cornerstone of this is not limiting the artistic process, and AMD innovation now makes that possible. Today AMD and OTOY demonstrated the ability to complete cinematic compositions in the real-time interactive realm, and that is a giant leap toward rapidly creating a new art form and experience.”

Now this is looking really promising and all, but it’s probably as of yet still quite awhile away from going commercial and every single time someone has made claims like this in the past they end up being disappointing.

The Rendering power of the Cell for example. Now the PS3 has nice graphics and it’s really powerful system but all the early “Real time rendering Gameplay!” videos weren’t actually from games but prerendered CGI.

When the games finally came, they didn’t look close to what you saw in the videos which were amazing.

I’ll keep my eye on this though and I really hope it has merit, at least I would like to see them put it to use in Movie since CGI in movies tends to have that artificial nature to them and if their claims actually are true this might help remedy that problem.

Standard Chitchat

So have not written anything now for a long time.

So I’m guessing most of you saw Indiana Jones 4 right?

Nuke the fridge, w00t! That was awesome.

Anyhoo, I have the distinct pleasure to be able to see the Incredible Hulk this Wednesday.

I am looking forward to it. Especially the little line ”HULK SMASH”.

I have high hopes that this movie will deliver proper geekness to itself, and not be so ”artsy” as Ang Lee’s outing into the superhero franchise. Hulk frankly left a bad taste in most peoples mouths.

Though I am probably one of the few that actually liked the movie.

Also had a chance to buy some tickets to an advance screening of Narnia: Prince Caspian.

But when I called the only seats that were available were front row seats.

Those people that know me, know that I have an almost fanatical stance on Movie theater seating.

I like ample leg room and that I am somewhere in the center of the movie theater so I can get the best possible experience from the THX.

Just watched the mid-season finale of Battlestar Galactica. Very cool I am very glad of the direction BSG has taken in this season, very metaphysical.

I implore every Sci-Fi geek to take a look at this series, the best series ever to grace the tube.

Anyways not much on my mind right now, will deliver a better post tomorrow.

Talk about movies and tv series or something something.

Capcom are looking for faces from gamers to appear in Street Fighter IV

Category: Gaming News

The bloggers over at Capcom-Unity the official Capcom blog managed through evil scheming and using some sorts of hallucinogenic chemical of evilness to convince Street Fighter IV producer Ono-san that it was a good idea to put together a contest.

The contest will allow a few ‘lucky’ gamers to have their faces added in the background at stages in Street Fighter IV.

Now to be one of the lucky ones all you need to do is send an email to contest@capcom.com and tell them why you should be be a face in Street Fighter IV, you can do it any way you see fit whether you send a pic, video, a poem, copy/pasting videos of George Bush’s speeches to say why you should be the lucky one, yodeling, it doesn’t matter.

The deadline for entries is Wednesday the 18th of June so there isn’t much time and if you want to take a shot at it, get to it..now!

Damn you, you snag!

Category: My Thoughts
damn-you-you-snag

Hit a little snag so I’m gonna have to postpone my review for Age of Conan for a better time, the snag being my best friend deciding to visit so I’ll be off busy with other errands.

Oh and I believe I fail to mention that I suffered an injury at work on Monday. A huge ass Forklift drove over my left ankle.

At first it seemed like it was going to be okay but then it got worse as I tried doing some light work again so I went to the doc earlier today and they took some X-rays. Unbelievably there are no broken bones, just a lot of bruising and some swelling.

I guess I have someone watching over me or I have some really tough bones that withstand 10 tons of iron sliding over them.

I’ll post the review as soon as possible.

Tortage Pirates sure are pain in the A$$.

Category: My Thoughts
tortage-pirates-sure-are-pain-in-the-a

Just writing in to say I have finally received my copy of Age of Conan. *cheers*

I’m planning writing my thoughts on it tomorrow but I can say that the game is off to a good start. The Combat is different from what normally seen in other similar MMO game. It isn’t nearly as tactics based as I thought. All it really comes down to is selecting whether you attack from left, right or center by pressing 1,2,3 and there is a certain shield system where your opponents can put extra shields one side but at the same time it will open up opportunities to make some major damage in others.

Anyway I’ll do a more robust review on the game tomorrow when I’ve spent some more time with it. I did manage to play it for 2.5 hours in my first session so at least it didn’t bore me all to hell straight from the start. ;)

Dawn of War II Teaser.

Category: Game Videos

It contains some gameplay so it’s well worth a watch. I personally don’t get that excited about teasers if all it really is, is a CGI animation that in itself doesn’t show us anything about the actual gameplay or anything.

I’m working on a top ten list thing right now. I might put it up later today, we’ll see.

Spore - Tribal Stage

Category: Game Videos, My Thoughts

Spore just keeps looking better and better. Seeing as how it’s been 2 years since the game was first seen at E3 and at that time the game looked virtually completed but then it got delayed…alot. So 2 years of fine tuning probably means better graphics, better gameplay and also unmatched awesomeness.

But not everything is good about this delay, EA is going to fuck it all up by shipping the game with that piece of shit Securom DRM crap.

The game will have limited install charges and will also be checked online for authenticity.

Now, I’m all for stopping game piracy, but this will never ever work. All it will ever do is piss people off who payed good money for the product or turn them to pirating the game instead since it’s much easier. EA has got to start realizing that DRM doesn’t work, it’s just a pain in the ass.

I have already heard my fair share of outcry about this. I’m especially pissed off about the limited reinstall part. What fucking right do they have to limit my access to the content on a disc I bought? It may be that it’s their content but when I buy the disc I’m buying the license to use and access what is on the disc. Then what the fuck is the deal with my bought disc turning into a coaster after only installing the game three times?

Screw it, I’m still buying it but I’m still pissed.
