Looks pretty awesome. It also shows a little gameplay. Seems they are going back a little when it comes to the battle system and I like that. I’m more a fan of the classic JRPG battle system then anything else.
According to a recent study, it’s not violence that gamers are looking for in a game but rather the sense of accomplishment, victory and the freedom that comes with playing them. This goes against the general idea many people have about gamers, that the reason they are playing is because they can shoot someones limbs off or mutilate them with a chainsaw. Of course I have very little doubt that this will get completely ignored by the more fanatic game/gamer haters like doesntknowJackshit Thompson. I was playing games for fun way before the concept of gaming violence became mainstream. Most of my favorite childhood games had at best cartoon violence such as Mario crushing goombas and I didn’t need gory violence in the game to find it fun.
It wasn’t until games such as Mortal Kombat and Doom(well and Wolfenstein 3d) that I first actually experienced gore and violence in games and I was never actually attracted to the violence itself but rather the games themselves which kicked ass back.
Now, I like action games which just happen to have a lot of gore in them such as God of War, but very little of the funfactor from the game comes from the actual killing more rather that I like the character, storyline and the gameplay. Even if they removed all the blood and senseless killing I would still play God of War and enjoy it just about as much. Lets take Metal Gear Solid as an example which at it’s core is a violent game. You can go around killing everyone with many different ways with plenty of weapons, from stabbing them to death to breaking their neck but I find it much more satisfying to sneak past them, that’s where the sense of accomplishment lies not how many necks you can snap on your way through the game. So you don’t need violence in a game for a game to be good.
I’ll also mention another example. I became sort of a Unreal Tournament 1 fanatic and I played it for years actively before I finally called it quits. The game graphics were hurting, it wasn’t really very gory and I personally even turned the gory stuff off because it slowed down my shitty PC at the time, that didn’t mean I didn’t love the game to shred. During the period plenty of gory games came out but I preferred good old UT over them any day because I adored the gameplay and the sense of accomplishment that came from competing against other gamers in it. I think this shows that our need to win outweighs our need for violence.
Bottomline that I (and many others) play games to challenge myself, enjoy a good storyline(though optional) and of course the most important one of all the gameplay.
Took a little look over my collection of games holy shit do I have many unfinished onces…
I have Assasin’s Creed, Folklore Resistance 1, Ratchet & Clank, Metal Gear solid 3, Halo 2, Justice league heroes, Kane&Lynch,Lost planet, Dark sector, Rainbow six Vegas 2, Mass effect, Gears of war 2, Ninja Gaiden, Megaman 9, Alone in the dark, Final Fantasy XII and the list goes on and on…
This is the problem with getting too many games, you never have the time to play all of them.
Hopefully I’ll scratch Gears of War 2 and perhaps Resistance 1 of the list soonish but I doubt I’ll ever finish them all.
Maybe I’ll get myself in the right mood and some point to tackle some of these “older” games. I think perhaps the biggest problem I’m facing is that I lack a viable Co-op partner for many of them.
So anyway here is a parody of the “I’m a PC and I’m a Mac” commercial made for City of Heroes.
Wow, these games are easily one of the shittiest shit you’ll ever get to see, and to think..this is a company today. There actually exist companies that go out of their way to make bad shit even to this day, just like companies such as LJN did back in the day.
They say on their website:
“Major corporations are solely geared to money making and sometimes lose grip of the nature of the creative enterprise in which they are engaged. The creators of original products are usually independent development companies that have a creative dream. Commercial success is important, but the product comes first and developers live or die by the quality of the product they create. More and more, the smaller developers are being taken over by large companies and there tends to be a vacuum between people who want to get involved in the games industry and people working on commercial products. The smaller developers have less chance to get their original new product to the market. This is the main strategy adopted by Phoenix, to give the smaller publishers their opportunity to launch their products at retail, with a high degree of success already assured.”
Let me translate that:
“We make horrible games that costs us next to nothing and put attractive covers on them to try to get mommy or daddy to buy it for their kids.”
If you are ever at a gamestore and you see anything with that symbol, leave it be, judging by this video the other games are probably just as bad…or worse.
I do have to admit that Animal Soccer World, is hilariously bad. It’s just a blatant ripoff of many Disney characters and lets not forget that the voice acting makes Resident evil 1’s voice acting actually pretty good in comparison.
If someone wants to torture themselves here is longer video from Animal Soccer World.
So…apparently Nintendo are patenting something that will allow gamers to turn on and off a tutorial mode which will last throughout the game.
Now I can see where they are going with this. There are parts of games that can get frustrating but isn’t this taking things a little far?
I mean, nowadays there is hardly a game that doesn’t autosave after every single step you take to advance through the game but with this you will have a built in tutorial for the entire game so doesn’t that kind of makes the game less interesting? I mean, what’s the point of playing a game if there is no challenge in figuring things out for yourself?
Now I know sometimes players get stuck in games..It happens and it can be frustrating but most will at least attempt to figure it out for themselves before resorting to a walkthrough. With a tutorial like this installed, you will be much more tempted to just check the tutorial just to advanced through the game.
I also don’t get the point of being able to skip ahead to any part of the game without having actually finished the part in question.
I’m sure many will be happy with this change, but I for one don’t like the direction it would be taking. It just defeats the point of playing the game at all to me.
This is what I think, I’d like to hear what are your opinions?
Probably the most memorable ad campaign I remember from my youth.
It’s funny that a campaign targeted at warning us of the dangers of Playstation made me want it even more. But then again I guess that’s what they were going for.
Oh and this clip from a show made back in 1990 called Video power. I never saw it since it was never broadcast over here. Come to think of it I don’t think there was never a videogame show broadcast here back then which is a shame. I would have liked to have some memories of a show from that period.
