Curse you..Red Rings Of Death!

I was doing whole lot of cursing on Sunday after my Xbox 360 started freezing up with vertical lines going down the screen, eventually ending with RROD.

I tried the towel trick and I did get it working for a little while longer that way. but in the long run the towel trick would only cause things to get worse. My warranty has long since expired on my 360 and even if it wasn’t, the company that I had warranty with has gone bankrupt.

Luckily enough, I saw over at the Icelandic Xbox 360 community a post from a guy who said he could fix 360s. So yesterday I dropped it off at his place, and only had to pay a nominal fee compared with what it would have cost me to buy a new 360.

It’s running like a dream now, he cleaned it up and he also seems to have fixed the problems I was having with the DVD drive as well.

The funny thing is, this is the second 360 that has failed on me and I remember that it first started failing after I tried out the demo for Crackdown.

Now, on Sunday I got a crazy urge to fire up Crackdown for the heck of it and….then it froze up…

Now I’m afraid to even put the game near my 360… :p

Anyway, Gears of War 2 is good, I haven’t gone far into the campaign yet because I feel that this game should be played co-op and not alone.

I’ve also tried out the demo for L4D, in short, it’s going to be awesome. :D

Oh I’m also playing through Force Unleashed that I got from a friend. It’s a great game, and definatly one of the better Star wars themed games that I’ve played.

Well…hmm I’ll leave you with this video below.

Emergence Day Take Two.

It’s here, it’s finally here!

Gears of War 2 hit the retail stores today and I went and picked it up around noon.

I’ve only scratched the surface of it so far but right from the start, not a lot has really changed. The graphics are a little prettier and I’ve come across one new weapon, you can also crawl away now if you are hurt and if you are playing Single player you aren’t automaticly dead, the AI will revive you.

Other then that, the gameplay is the same.

However this is by no means a bad thing, Gears of War is one of my favorite games and so having another crack at gunning down the Locust as Marcus Fenix is a welcome treat.

You start of defending a Hospital against the Locust, 6 months after the end of Gears of War and clearly the Lightmass bomb was not nearly enough to take out the Locust and due to evapouration of Immulsion after the explotion a new disease Rust Lung started spreading among the remaining human population  and thus Humanity is left at the brink of extinction. When cities started to disappear COG started suspecting the Locust were back. Now with their last stronghold being in the city of Jacinto which sits on a  Plateau thought to be impenetrable. But when it starts to show sign that it might not be so. COG sees no other option but to launch a massive counter attack against the Locust and taking the fight to where they live in an effort to save Jacinto.

At the start of the game, Delta Squad gets a rookie squad member called Benjamin Carmine which is the brother of Anthony Carmine who died in the first game. Now they use this to take you through the tutorial mode which is pretty neat. Since usually it’s pretty stupid when a War veteran such as Fenix would be taken through a tutorial learning about stuff he’s been doing for 20 years, but here they can do it with Fenix teaching the rookie how to do it.

The game also features upgrade multiplayer mode, with 10 players being able to play online vs the 8 player limit in the original and three new multiplayer modes called Gurdian, Wingman and Submission. They have also implanted a Matchmaking system similar to that of Halo. They have also implanted bots in multiplayer matches now, which is great. They are also available in a special tutorial mode for multiplayer so you can actually try out the new game modes before you go online and get your ass kicked.

Also as an added bonus there is a new five player co-op mode called Horde. Where you and 4 of your buddies can play together to fight off and endless waves of Locust attacking.

I’ll add something more about the game once I’ve had a little more time with it.

Oh and also

1920×1200 (Wide)
1600×1200
1280×1024
1024×768

Totally Epic ^^

Gimme monies I needs thems.

So, here I am with like 8 games I want and no chance in hell I can buy them.

I’m forced to listen to other people rant on about how great these games are and all I can do is throw stuff at them…

I’m hoping I can get back on my feet by next months pay but I’ll have to live very cheaply in November if that is to happen.

Anyway, enough about my personal rant stuff.

While I don’t have a lot of new games right now, I have been messing around with other stuff such as the Call of Duty World at War beta.

Now, I haven’t tried it out a lot but it’s good, and probably going to get plenty playing it, but that’s only because the game is exactly like Call of Duty 4 except it’s set in WW2. WW2 games have oversaturated the FPS market and as such it puts a lot of people off. Not to mention it’s really the exact same game. I haven’t seen or tried everything but the only really new thing I saw was that it has a class for Attack Dogs. So you can run around killing everyone with your mouth, it’s interesting to see how that is hehe.

Other then that, the campaign allows co-op for the first time in the series, which is pretty sweet and also after you finish the campaign you unlock a special Nazi zombie mode. Where you and your friends can battle together to stay alive against unending hordes of zombies, and having the ability to exchange points you get for killing zombies for ammo and upgrades to your weapon to help you stay alive for longer.

While I’m going on about zombies, later this month Left 4 Dead is coming out which will feature 4 player co-op where you can your buddies are “left for dead” against a zombie infestation.

It’s made by Valve and considering their track record of never having released a bad game…like ever. I tend to think that this is going to be an excellent game and while I might have to let it wait awhile, I’m still going to get it eventually.

On another more exciting note, Mirror’s edge demo is out on PSN today and it will arrive on Xbox Live tomorrow.

Ever since I saw this game ages ago I have been excited to see what they make of it. It certainly seems to have a unique way about it and the graphics are to die for.

It’s all about free roaming and running…and some more running and unlike pretty much all other FPS you don’t carry a weapon with you, you may take them from enemies and use them but for the most part you are just running away and trying to stay alive.

Oh and last but not least the Gears of War 2 Launch trailer has arrived and as always the game looks gorgeous.

Gears of War 2 E3 2008: Microsoft Press Conference Walkthrough

Category: E32008, Game Videos

Looks like Gears of Wars with some added touches…and that’s not a bad thing. I can’t wait to kick some locust ass again along side a buddy!

And I don’t have to wait that long either, the game will launch worldwide November the 7th.

Of course I’ll have to devise some sort of devious plan to get my hands on the game earlier then that obviously. <_ < >_>
