A new year is upon us.

2008 is behind us and now it’s time for 2009.

Overall 2008 had a great selection of terrific games, though not without it’s disappointments.

Haze, Fracture and Too human, alone in the dark were all games many had high hopes for but in the end they turned out to be mediocre at best and riddled with bugs which is a shame because they really could have been some of the better games for 2008 if it weren’t for this.

In my personal opinion the best games that I played last year were

Metal Gear solid 4

One of the most cinematic game I have ever played. Only real problem is that it is if anything to cinematic. There are hours of cutscenes, clips, etc that you have to watch throughout the game. But if you have the patience to sit through it all, it really is an awesome experience, I love everything about this game and it’s the best one in 2008 in my opinion.

Super Smash bros Brawl

ssbb

I never played the earlier titles and I regret having missed out on them back in the day. But due to me never owning a Nintendo 64 or a Gamecube they just slipped by me unnoticed. That is until I started to hear news about a Smash bros brawl in the works and at first I was like “uhh what’s that?”. I searched for videos from the game and I instantly liked what I saw. I’m a great fan of fighting games and this game was right up my alley. Just looking at it made me think of Power stone because that is easily one of my favorite fighting game ever.
When I visited Digital Overload in Providence, Rhode Island in March it just so happened to be the weekend Brawl was being released. It was due to come out on Sunday but they were able to get advance copies for sale at the event and so I got to play Brawl before it even officially released. I didn’t really do a lot of gaming at the event, but when I got back to the hotel room I ended up playing Brawl far into the night. I totally sucked at it when I first started out but I still loved it to death and still do. I just know that if there is a Wii at gaming party with my friends Brawl will be the game of choice. When I came back home to Iceland I checked when it was going to be released in EU and to my dismay Nintendo being the bastards that they are was making EU waiting an extra 5 months for Brawl to be released. I just couldn’t wait that long so I said fuck it and imported a US copy and bought a Free loader to play it on my Wii.

Castle Crashers

cc

Major Nelson recently revealed Castle Crashers as the most downloaded Xbox live Arcade game and for good reasons. With it’s crisp 2D animation in HD and classic beat ‘em up gameplay with some RPG elements it was guranteed to be a big hit.  Oh and not to forget both offline and online 4 player coop mayhem. I’m glad and a little surprised to see that the really bad bugs that plagued it(up until the update that came the other day addressing them) didn’t affect it’s success. I just wish they had done it a few months sooner, I’ve moved on to other things now and so have everyone else that I would have liked to play Online coop with me..

Left 4 Dead

l4d

Do I need to say much about this game? honestly? I’ll just put main things that make this game great.

1. Zombie apocalypse

2. Weapons to shoot zombies

3. 4 player coop Offline/online

4. Versus mode where 4 players as zombies try to kill the survivors

4. Zoey is hot.

5. braaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiinsss

Grand Theft Auto IV

gta4

I did a whole review on this game on my site. To sum it up, I thought it was very good.

It wasn’t the best year but it did have it’s share of great games that I loved to play.

Now as for this year, one can only hope that rumours about God of War III, StarCraft II and Diablo III coming in 2009 to be true because that would just be awesome. Even if that doesn’t happen the year starts of nicely with Street fighter IV coming next month. Everything I’ve seen from this game makes me want it even more and knowing Capcom they aren’t going to disappoint.

I’m going to get Street fighter IV, but only time will tell about any other titles that might peek my interest in 2009.

So happy new year to all.

Codename ‘Finished Snake’

I finally got around to finishing Metal Gear Solid 4.

First things first, this game is easily one of the best games I have played and certainly the most cinematic game to boot.

Playing this game really makes you think you are in a action movie.

Both thanks to the amazing gameplay and graphics, that are so good they are used for the cutscenes so there is no pause when going from cutscene to gameplay then there is of course hours of cutscenes to watch. The last cutscene alone was like 40 minutes or more.

It’s everything the earlier installments were, just better in every single way imaginable.

That says a lot about a game right there.

The story is way overly complicated, really hard to follow at times, it really is a must to have played MGS1-3 to really understand what is going on.

Of course the story is still very elaborate and good and it’s cinematic quality stands out, I remember when I played MGS1 first, it was totally different from anything that had come out before it because there was a distinct difference between games and movies at that time.

Now Hideo Kojima, the man behind Snake and his illustrious Career has long since announced that Metal Gear Solid 4 would be his last.

However he has since announced that though he might not be working on it anymore, that doesn’t mean that Metal Gear isn’t going to continue on in some form or the other.

I don’t know if it’s going to work without Hideo Kojima since he is the brains behind the series but I will still keep my eye out for a new Metal Gear game.

Anyway enough about MGS, it seems that the new Bionic Commander game coming for PC,PSN and XBL has been given a release date and it’s just next week at $10 for PSN and Xbox Live Arcade but for no apparent reason it will cost $15 on PC.

Also while PC version will launch on August 14th and the XBLA version will be available on August 13th the PSN version for Japan and US will arrive on August 13th but EU release date hasn’t been announced.

Oh I think it’s worth mentioning but tomorrow will mark 2 years since I first posted on this site. I can hardly believe it has been that long. The site has changed a lot in that time and grown in popularity, and by grown I mean, has a few RSS feeder readers and few hits there and here from google and of course my banner on CAD forums.

Back then I didn’t plan this site out to be a gaming blog but in the end that’s what it turned into maybe because they are and always shall be something I find interesting.

So happy birthday GAB!

Three words..

three-words

MGS4 kicks this universe and also the universe beside it, it fucking owns!

Okay maybe that’s not three words but you get my drift.

If you have a PS3 go get MGS 1 through 4 and dig in, it’s simply awesome and MGS4 even beats MGS1 for me and that game is one of my top ten favorites of all time.

So yeah, MGS4 is the first really really awesome exclusive for the PS3.

Metal Gears of Solid War!

Category: My Thoughts, Reviews

Okay I’ve been giving Metal Gear Solid 4 a try today.

It’s true what I’ve heard, this game really has a lot of cutscenes. The first hour you barely get to walk around between cutscenes, they are cool and all..but dear god…LET ME PLAY!

Well you eventually get passed the most heavy cutscene part and then you get to try Snake out a bit. Now the reason for the title for this blog is that at least at the beginning of the game this game is very unlike earlier titles.

You are thrown into a warzone so you can’t really sneak around all that easy, Snake’s Camo suit does give him good cover, but with so many eyes all over the place, getting around through the usual sneaking doesn’t work in many situations. You do get a disguise so you can mingle among them and I suppose you could get through it that way, but then again you are still an enemy in the eyes of the opposing force and they are the ones you have to get through.

I found out in many situation it’s easier to just put on the disguise and help them kill the others, not exactly the approach I’m used to play in Metal Gear Solid but hey..it’s fun either way.

Later on you do get to sneak around more though.

But yeah this game reeks of awesomeness and I just know this game is just going to get better and better.

Anyway this is just a short review on the game, got other stuff to do right now…

Finally!

Category: My Thoughts
finally

The package containing Metal Gear Solid 4 and the Incredible Hulk game just arrived. I had all but given up hope of getting it, and getting a refund was even doubtful.

Tested the hulk game, it’s true what they say, the voice acting is bad despite the voices being of the actors who play in the movie, I guess either they aren’t as good voice actors as actors(two different things I would think) or there were some time constraints so they didn’t have enough time to do it right, but the gameplay isn’t that far off from what I played and loved in Hulk’s Ultimate Destruction so far it isn’t bad overall.

I’m installing Metal Gear Solid 4 right now, sucks to have to wait 8 minutes for that while it would load up instantly on the 360, but hey it means lesser load times once in the game.

Still sucks…I want to play now damn it! :p
