So here we go again….

#10 Final Fantasy Mystiq Quest - Battle theme

Most would consider this game substandard and merely meant to be a good place to start for players that haven’t played RPG games before since it’s way easy with a very simple battle system and story. However despite all it’s flaws, the music in this game is simply awesome. I used to listen to this all the time, it has such arrange of catchy themes and this is but one of them.

#9 Street Fighter II - Ken Stage

The game that started it all. If it wasn’t for Street Fighter II it’s possible Fighting games wouldn’t be nearly as popular as they are today nor as good. While frustratingly hard, I loved this game back in the day and I also loved the soundtrack.

#8 Megaman X - Boomer Kuwanger Stage

When Megaman made the jump to SNES a whole new series was made they called Megman X. It improved on everything the NES versions had to offer and also boasted some kickass music such as this.

#7 Killer Instinct - Title

The game that invented “Hypeeeeeeeerrrr Coooooooommmmmboooo” Before this game came, games were limited to only about 2-3 hit combo but in this game you can easily hit 10 or more hits which was a huge thing. Aside from that the game also boasted a great music score as evident by this one.

#6 Actraiser - Forest

Actraiser is in a league of it’s own. It successfully managed to blend together action platformer and RPG…Oh did I mention you are God in the game? Pretty sure I haven’t.

#5 Donkey Kong Country - Oil Drum Alley

DKC may sound like a weird concept for a platformer game but it ended up being brilliant. DKC and DKC2 are some of the best platformer game ever made rivaling even the greatest of Mario games thanks to it’s clever map design, incredible graphics that pushed the SNES to it’s limits and incredible soundtrack.

#4 Earthworm Jim - New Junk City

So speaking of good platformer games. One of the most hilarious and wacky one you can find. In what other game could flush yourself down a toilet and use your face to whack crows? None!

#3 Legend of Zelda: A link to the Past - Castle

I could very well have put the overworld theme there but since I put it on my top NES theme list I think it’s better to go with this one instead. In my opinion this is the best Zelda game ever made.

#2 Star Fox - Corneria

Ah yes, the “OMG THE GRAPHICS DROOOOOOOOL” circa 1993..Of course today we see it for the polygon mess it is. The gameplay is solid though….I hate slippy though, that damn frog just can’t keep himself out of trouble.

#1 Secret of Mana - Title

Oh man, this theme always sends chill down my spine..It’s has such a pretty melody…*sniffle*

That’s it, Next up Top ten Favorite PS1 themes.

Underated game of the day - Metal Warriors

Category: My Thoughts

Looking for a game that never got the attention it deserved? Well you wouldn’t have to look further then Metal Warriors on the SNES.

Developed by Lucasart and published by Konami and released back in 1995 only in the US. It was about as late is it could get as the Playstation launched only a few months later which I believe was one of biggest factor in why this game got overlooked.

The year is 2102, the Earth has been at war with the evil Dark axis ruled by evil dictator Venkar Amon. Very little remains of Earth’s force and you as one of the few must strive to protect the Earth and end the war using your advanced robotic weaponry.

It came shipped with a decent Single player campaign but what really made the game great was the versus mode.

With six mech suits and a dozen stages to choose from you are bound to come back to this game again and again.

You had The Nitro

Pros: Armed with a highly accurate automatic plasma rifle, a powerful energy sword, a defensive shield and a smaller defensive shield that can be deployed in mid-air to absorb small amount of damage as well as damage enemies if they come in contact with it and a jetpack making it capable of continuous flying and giving it great agility.

Cons: Has a relatively weak armor, lacks firepower.

The Havoc

Pros: Armed with a Assault rifle, Bladed chain weapon with great range, rocket boosters on feets for quick movement on ground and for boosting higher jumps, strong ballistic shield, tough armor.

Cons: assault rifle inaccurate, not as agile as most others.

The Drache

Pros: rapid-fire plasmagun cabable of firing in all directions(depended on which button is pushed),highly mobile aerial movement, devastating aerial dive attack.

Cons: very week armor, no shield(except when doing the aerial dive)

The Ballistic

Pros: High caliber Machine gun, powerful Fusion cannon, launch a smash attack against a enemy or for quick getaway, armor plated shield, good agility.

Cons: Has to remain stationary to fire weapons which also makes it vulnerable to areal attacks.

Prometheus

Pros: Two huge mounted battle cannons, flamethrower for close quarters combat, mines that drift upwards damaging and deterring areal attacks, shield providing 360 degree shielding, the toughest armor in the game, ability to bridge gaps.

Cons: slow, unable to jump or sprint.

The Spider

Pros: Capable of latching on to any surface and crawl up it, hovering drone shoots plasma shots not unlike the Nitro, fast melee attack where the drone smashes into enemy, able to shoot web that paralyzes enemy, able to camouflage itself.

Cons: No shield, camouflage useless in multiplayer due to split-screen setup.

—————————————————————————

Throughout the stages there are dispenser that randomly give out power ups such as a rocket launcher, grenades, speed up,one that gives you the ability to walk on the ceiling and one that allows you to throw powerful bombs with a timer at your opponent. They also give out an item that will restore your mech suit to full health. This is one of things that makes this game great, while your friend has almost killed you and chasing you all around you can get lucky enough and run into a health pack completely turning the match around making your friend swear out loud which is a satisfying experience let me tell you.

Now if there is no health pack appearing or you are completely cut off from getting to a dispenser by your opponent you have the ability to leave your mech and with a jetpack you can try to escape and go get another one that is available in various quantity and types in stages.

If there are no other mechs left, you are pretty much dead. You are armed with a gun of some sorts but against a gigantic mech suit it has no chance however you can ask your opponent to have a duel on even grounds with him leaving the suit, this of course gives you the chance to steal his mech and this one of the most awesome things ever in any videogame.

Here is a gameplay video from the versus mode so you can check out how the game looks and plays.

If there is one game I really want to see on the Virtual Console it’s this masterpiece. This is without a doubt one of the best versus game I have played in my life and I highly recommend tracking down a copy of it if you are into versus games, to me it even rivals the greatness that is Street Fighter.
